Introducing Des Royle – From Servers to Servants (of Cats)

Chesham local Des Royle is no stranger to structure and systems. For nearly 30 years, his world revolved around global IT operations, coding languages, and client strategy meetings. But in June 2025, he traded boardroom buzzwords for bell jingles and launched The Cat Butler Chesham, delivering trusted, in-home cat care to feline clients across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

Des Royle left IT behind to launch The Cat Butler Chesham franchise, bringing purr-sonalised pet care to local homes

Des said:

“I’m so excited to have launched The Cat Butler Chesham. The opportunity to provide high-quality, personalised care for feline friends while building a trusted local service is something I’m passionate about and looking forward to, after spending 28 years in a corporate environment.”

Meet the Inspiration Behind the Business

Des shares his home with two lively cats: Tiffany, a four-year-old Turkish Angora, and Molly, a two-year-old Khao Manee. And if you think these elegant breeds are the picture of serenity, think again.

“Their favourite activity is to chase each other up and down the stairs at night,” Des says. “We know it’s morning when Tiffany climbs on my chest and sits there purring until I get up. Molly has a different strategy - she drapes herself over your head and plays with your hair!”

Their playful antics and strong personalities not only inspired Des’s next chapter - they also gave him insight into what cats really need when their owners are away: familiarity, comfort, and consistent care.

Des’s own cats were the inspiration behind his new career -proof that every great cat sitter starts at home

Why The Cat Butler Was the Right Fit

After taking early retirement, Des was looking for something more than just a job - he wanted a new purpose that would allow him to connect with people (and their pets), serve his local community, and work on his own terms.

Des said:

While technology has been a significant part of my professional journey, my passion for feline care has always been personal. Now, I’m thrilled to transition into a role where I can combine my structured approach with my deep love for cats, ensuring their well-being while providing owners with a trusted, reliable, and stress-free service.”

Cat Sitting That Keeps Cats in the Comfort of Home

Des offers a premium alternative to catteries—cat sitting that takes place in the cat’s own home. This reduces stress, maintains routines, and provides owners with peace of mind.

His service includes:

  • Feeding and fresh water
  • Litter tray cleaning
  • Playtime and companionship
  • Medication administration (if required)
  • Basic home care (watering plants, bringing in the post, managing bins)

He now covers Chesham, Amersham, Berkhamsted, Great Missenden, Hemel Hempstead, Tring, East Aylesbury, and nearby towns and villages.

Des is on a mission to bring smiles, support local cat owners, and meet plenty of feline friends along the way!

Building Something Local, Trusted, and CLAWSOME

Starting a new business is never without its challenges, but Des is ready for the journey and is already seeing the rewards.

I know initially it will be a steep learning curve, and it will take a lot of hard work to get things off the ground, but I’m looking forward to building this into a huge success where I can bring something to the community, meet different people (and a lot of cats!), and put a smile on people’s faces - it’s going to be CLAWSOME.
