Two Decades of Fostering: The Heart Behind The Cat Butler Doncaster

For Tamsin, owner of The Cat Butler Doncaster, caring for cats is far more than a business; it is a lifelong passion.

For over 20 years, fostering has been a huge part of Tamsin’s life. During that time, she has opened her doors to countless vulnerable animals who, for one reason or another, needed somewhere safe to land.

Her experience spans caring for orphaned kittens, frightened animals recovering from neglect, and pets simply needing time, patience, and stability before finding their forever homes.

Tamsin reflects:

"For me, fostering has never just been about providing food and a roof over their heads. It is about understanding the individual animal in front of me and giving them what they need to thrive."

Experience, Patience, and Family Support

Tamsin's 18 years working as an RSPCA Inspector provided her with invaluable hands-on experience and animal welfare knowledge. However, fostering taught her an equally crucial lesson: patience.

You cannot force an animal to trust you. By offering safety, consistency, and kindness, that trust naturally develops in its own time.

Fostering in Tamsin’s home has always been a true family affair. Her own resident animals have played a vital role in helping young rescue kittens learn how to play, socialise, gain confidence, and simply enjoy life.

Continuing the Mission: Cat Action Trust 1977

In 2026, Tamsin officially became a fosterer for Cat Action Trust 1977, continuing a journey spanning more than two decades.

Her first intake for the charity arrived on 27th July after seven tiny kittens were rescued from an allotment in Doncaster. Tamsin welcomed three of these vulnerable kittens into her home the very next day. Just under three weeks old and significantly underweight, they needed intensive, round-the-clock care.

Among them was a delicate little tabby named Little Mouse. Sadly, despite receiving endless love, warmth, and careful feeding, Little Mouse passed away in mid-August due to underlying health struggles. Though his time was short, he spent his final weeks surrounded by comfort and deep affection.

The 'Essex Boys' Thrive

The remaining two black and white kittens, affectionately dubbed The Essex Boys, have gone from strength to strength. From frail, hungry infants, they have grown into playful, confident young cats.

Every late-night feed, vet check, and bottle rotation reinforces why fostering remains so vital: a safe, loving home at the right moment can completely change the direction of an animal's life.

Every Pawprint Matters

Reflecting on more than 20 years of fostering, Tamsin says:

"I couldn't put a figure on the hours of care, sleepless nights, feeds, cleaning, vet trips, or cuddles that have gone into more than 20 years of fostering. Nor could I tell you exactly how many pawprints have passed through my home. What I can say is that every single one mattered."
