At The Cat Butler, our franchisees don’t just care for cats in their clients’ homes – they also share our passion for helping cats in the wider community. Alex, who runs The Cat Butler – SW Nottingham, is a shining example of this commitment. Alongside caring for the beloved cats of his clients, Alex regularly supports the life-saving work of Millwood Cat Rescue in West Bridgford.
Millwood Cat Rescue was founded in 1994 by Veronica “Ronnie” McMillen and her late husband Dave, who designed and built the rescue at their own home. Now in her early 80s, Ronnie continues to dedicate her life to the rescue of mistreated and abandoned cats, supported by a team of kind volunteers.
Since launching his The Cat Butler franchise, Alex has been on hand to help Ronnie in many ways – from making emergency collections of abandoned cats to gathering donations of food and litter from his clients to pass on to the rescue.
One of his recent call-outs involved a tiny kitten left behind in a flat in Lenton after the tenants moved out. Just five weeks old and visibly shaken, the kitten was found by a neighbour and urgently needed help.
Alex collected the kitten straight away and delivered him safely to Millwood Cat Rescue, where Ronnie took him in, managed to get him feeding, and settled him into their quarantine area.
When Alex visited a few days later, he was delighted to see the little one recovering well – a testament to the difference Millwood makes for every cat that comes through its doors.
Alex’s support doesn’t stop at rescue work. On Friday 25th July, he hosted a tombola stall at the Heymann Primary School Year 6 Leavers Party, held at the Nottingham Moderns Rugby Football Club in Wilford.
Thanks to the support of event organiser and fellow cat lover, Donna Lucas, the stall raised valuable funds for Millwood Cat Rescue. When Alex delivered the £68 donation, Ronnie expressed her gratitude by explaining that it would cover two spays – a vital step in controlling the cycle of unwanted kittens.
Alex’s dedication to Millwood Cat Rescue perfectly reflects the values we hold dear at The Cat Butler – caring, reliability, integrity, excellence, and community. By volunteering his time and resources, he shows the same passion for cats in need as he does for those entrusted to his daily care.
