Recently, I had the opportunity to assist with a surrender run on behalf of Cats Protection. After a busy few months with The Cat Butler Rossendale, I was eager to lend a hand and contribute to the incredible work this charity does. When a request came through to transport a cat from Bolton to Southport, I jumped at the chance to help.
Midnight, a 7-year-old fluffy black boy, was being surrendered due to his owner’s declining health. It was a tough decision for his owner, but one made with Midnight’s best interests at heart. Knowing that Cats Protection would ensure he received the care, love, and attention he deserves provided much-needed comfort in an otherwise bittersweet moment.
Setting off in the morning, I made my way to Bolton to meet Midnight and his owner. We spent a few moments discussing Midnight’s personality and routine, which only served to remind me just how much love and thought goes into these decisions. With Midnight safely and comfortably settled in his carrier, we began our 86-mile round trip to the seaside town of Southport.

Arriving at the Cats Protection Centre, we were warmly greeted by the team, who were ready to welcome Midnight into their care. As he was checked in, the staff explained the next steps: a veterinary assessment, some time to settle, and then the start of his search for a new forever home. Seeing how calm and gentle the team were with Midnight, I knew he was in safe hands.
It was an emotional journey, but one that left me feeling grateful to have played a small role in Midnight’s next chapter. Transporting cats to safety, to loving care, and to a future filled with hope is a privilege I won’t soon forget.
As The Cat Butler, we spend every day caring for our clients’ beloved cats, ensuring they are happy, healthy, and loved. But moments like these remind me of the importance of the wider feline community and the organisations working tirelessly to give cats like Midnight the best possible future. Whether it’s supporting rescues, transporting cats, or simply spreading awareness, every small action counts.
I wish Midnight all the best as he begins this new journey and hope he finds his perfect forever home soon. If you ever find yourself able to help a local rescue, I can’t recommend it enough – it’s a rewarding experience that makes a real difference.
And who doesn’t love a day at the seaside, after all?
