After completing my training with Cats Protection, I recently embarked on my first independent assignment. It involved a surrender run, a crucial yet challenging task where I was responsible for collecting two cats from an owner who could no longer provide for them. Relinquishing pets is always a difficult decision, but getting in touch with organisations like Cats Protection ensures that cats, like the two-year-old siblings Pickles and Nyx, find new opportunities for a forever home.
As a volunteer transporter, my duties included safely transferring Pickles and Nyx from their previous home to an RSPCA vet clinic. There, they underwent thorough health checks to confirm their vaccinations and overall health were up to date. Once cleared, they were taken to the shelter and housed together in their own pen as a bonded pair.

The shelter staff took over from there, helping Pickles and Nyx adjust to their new surroundings and gradually understanding their personalities. This is vital to ensure they match with the perfect adopting family. After each mission, it's important to disinfect carriers and equipment, preparing them for the next call-out.

For anyone facing difficulties caring for their pets, I highly recommend consulting Cats Protection's guide for assistance and advice, available here. While Pickles and Nyx are not ready for adoption yet, you can explore other cats looking for a home here.
