At The Cat Butler Rossendale, we are always eager to celebrate local heroes who make a real difference in the lives of cats in need. Our Rossendale franchisee, Phil Carter, explains how one remarkable local, Bev, stepped up to transform the lives of two abandoned cats in our community.
Bev first reached out to me through the Rossendale Cat Owners group on Facebook. She had discovered two stray cats left behind after a family had moved away. Among them was a heavily pregnant female cat in desperate need of help. Unfortunately, with local rescue centres overwhelmed and unable to take in more animals, Bev decided she had to take action herself.
Through my involvement with Cats Protection, I was able to provide Bev with some vital resources, including a humane trap and sturdy carriers. Bev successfully trapped the male cat and had him neutered, ensuring he wouldn’t contribute to any further stray litters.
The real challenge came when the pregnant female gave birth. Bev worked tirelessly to provide the new mum and her kittens with a safe, warm environment where they could thrive. Thanks to her care and dedication, the kittens grew strong and healthy. Over time, Bev found loving homes for two of them, while the remaining two kittens—now affectionately named Rommie and Remi—stayed with her. Despite being semi-feral at first, they’ve now transformed into affectionate lap cats, a testament to Bev’s patience and love.
The mother cat was spayed shortly after weaning her kittens and is now living a happy, stress-free life. Bev’s compassion not only saved these cats from an uncertain future but also eased the burden on local rescue services. Her actions are a beautiful reminder of how one person’s kindness can make a lasting impact on animal welfare.
To Bev and all those like her, thank you for being a shining example of what it means to care for our community’s cats. Your efforts don’t just change the lives of animals—you inspire all of us to do more.
