Rachel, the owner of The Cat Butler Tamworth, recently teamed up with Polesworth Donkey Sanctuary at their Summer Party to raise vital funds for rescued donkeys and the kitties at Grendon Cat Shelter seeking their furrever homes. Despite the typical British weather, the event was a heartwarming success, with families coming together to support the animals while enjoying a day of fun activities.
Rachel says:
I was honoured to spend a lovely day at Polesworth Donkey Sanctuary at their Summer Party event, raising money for the rescued donkeys on site and the kitties looking for their furrever homes at Grendon Cat Shelter.
Dozens of families came down to enjoy the party, in spite of the decidedly British weather, and it was brilliant to see so many kids enjoying the games, face painting, being entertained by Bibbledy Bob the clown, and dancing with Stitch, Bluey and Bingo.
As a lover of animals, I wanted to raise money for the committed people who do such great work in our community looking after animals who have not had the greatest start in life. I had been lucky enough to receive an awesome gift from some of my colleagues in my previous job who knew I was starting a new adventure looking after cats: a Lego tuxedo cat! I hadn’t built Lego for a while but set to it and, twenty individual packets later, finished the build in around 6 hours. It looked beautiful but surely needed a name.
Thus, the idea for the fundraiser was born: ‘Guess Lego Kitty’s name’! I had a lovely time showing off Lego Kitty and speaking to families and wonderful cat owners on the day, and the weather held out right up until I had to start packing away! We managed to raise £76 for the donks and kitties, which I was thrilled with, and the owners were so grateful for the donations.
The winner of the fundraiser was Great Barr resident Paul Carter and his lovely family, with their guess of the name Pandora! Cats do love boxes after all!
It was really heartwarming to deliver the prize of a kitty gift hamper to Paul and his partner. Their children, Seb and Amelia, were thrilled with the prize and wasted no time in introducing some of the treats and toys to their sweet feline friend, Whisper! Whisper is a petite girl who knows her own mind and allows affection on her terms only - I’m sure some of us can certainly relate! Speaking to Paul and his wife, I learned that they had adopted Whisper after their neighbour could no longer care for her. She was now much happier and settled and loved beyond measure by her new humans. I left Whisper and family feeling content and grateful that there are so many good people about, loving and caring for all of these beautiful animals.
And now Pandora sits proudly on display at my home! My moggy Milo is yet to suss out his new Lego companion…
