As qualified Feline First Aiders, we at The Cat Butler Derby are very experienced at administrating many different types of medication - both to our own fur babies and to those we had the pleasure of caring for. Our own cat Pearl has hyperthyroidism and requires medication in her ears twice a day in a liquid form.
We give tablets in different forms, for example, crushed up in food or hidden in treats. We also administer eye drops and have found the most effective way of doing this is by wrapping the cat up in a towel. Sweet Saffy from Derby (pictured) loves to be held like this!

More recently we have noticed an increase in clients whose cats have diabetes. This condition affects many cats but tends to affect the elderly or obese more prevalently. Clients such as handsome ginger boy Arnold (pictured) require insulin injections at 12 hourly intervals, 7 am and 7 pm. This is usually done in the back of the neck and is painless to cats - although understandably it can be rather daunting the first time you administer an injection to your precious fur baby!
This is why many cat owners prefer trusting the professionals at The Cat Butler, rather than relying on friends, family or neighbours to administer important medication whilst they are away. Due to the medical nature of visits requiring insulin injections and the importance of the timings, there is an additional surcharge, this is to ensure that cats are getting the treatment and care they need at exactly the right time.

We once heard of a neighbour doing the injections and unfortunately administering the incorrect dose - with heartbreaking consequences. Being chosen to look after anybody’s cat is a privilege but to be trusted with those who have medical issues is something we take extremely seriously and as always we treat every treasured feline as our own.
If you have any concerns about your cats' health, always contact your vet.
