Another missing cat? It's every cat owner's worst nightmare. Cats are our family, so when they go missing we do everything in our power to get them home safe and sound. A lovely client of ours recently went out every morning at 3 am for a week searching for her fur baby and found her in the garden shed with a wounded leg. Another went missing for 3 weeks, only to return and wonder what all the fuss was about!
Of course, having a microchip means that missing cats have a much greater chance of being reunited with their paw-rents. With microchipping becoming compulsory for all cats on June 10th 2024, we got thinking about how we could help reunite our beloved kitties with their owners. We came across Scan Angels and knew we had to sign up to become a volunteer. It was so quick and easy and you can edit your availability to suit your schedule and lifestyle.
After purchasing a scanner we were excited to receive a call for help from a lady who had been given our number by the Cats Protection League. A gorgeous tabby boy had been visiting her house for a couple of months and she was desperate to find its owner. We popped over and scanned him and thankfully he had a microchip number. After calling the Microchip Central helpdesk, we discovered that although he wasn't registered on a database, the vets where he had had the chip implanted were on their records.
Feeling like an Agatha Christie detective, we called the vets and they managed to track down the owner (due to Data protection they were unable - quite rightly - to give us their details). Half an hour later we received a phone call from a very happy and surprised lady who had been missing her fur baby for 3 months! The following day they were reunited and we felt delighted to have been able to help and give something back to the cat community.

So feline friends, please make sure you get your fur babies chipped and registered on a database (the vets will either do this for you or advise you what to do) REMEMBER a microchip alone is not enough, it also needs to be registered! Our precious babies may still go missing but let's work together to make sure they return back home where they belong!
