In April 2021, our family grew by one very special member – an old gentleman named Patch. At 14 years old, Patch joined us on my son Lewis's birthday, and despite his senior years, he’s still going strong at 17. His journey to our home was far from easy, but it’s one that has made him all the more cherished. From his days as a stray in London to his time spent in the Blue Cross, Patch has been through a lot. We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to give him a warm, loving home where he can enjoy his golden years.
Here's a little more about Patch's journey and how he came to be part of our family.
Patch had a difficult beginning. He was found as a stray in London and taken to the Blue Cross. Eventually, he was adopted by an older lady, but after she sadly passed away, Patch was returned to the Blue Cross. He spent three months at their Lewknor rehoming centre, but he didn’t enjoy being in a pen and was fostered out to receive the love and attention he truly needed.
During the Covid lockdown, I often found myself looking through rescue centre websites, hoping to adopt a cat. Having worked for the Blue Cross in PR many years ago, it was their site I kept revisiting. Patch’s picture stayed up while other, younger cats came and went. He tugged at my heartstrings, and I knew he was meant to be ours. On Lewis’s birthday, April 26th, 2021, I went to collect him, and from that moment, he became a beloved part of our family.
Patch has brought so much joy and laughter into our home with his quirky habits, like licking anyone who offers him a lap to sit on! Despite his age and medical conditions, we wouldn’t change a thing. Adopting a senior cat like Patch has been a wonderful experience, and we feel lucky to give him the love and care he deserves in his twilight years.
If you’re thinking of adopting, we highly recommend considering a senior cat – they have so much love left to give! Have a look at www.catchat.org for a list of your local rescue centres, and you might just find your own Patch waiting for a forever home.
