From IT to cat care! Alex Bradley has swapped a long career in tech for his dream job, bringing The Cat Butler’s premium cat sitting service to South West Nottingham

What Did Life Look Like Before The Cat Butler

After being made redundant from his IT management role in 2019, Alex wasn’t keen to return to the same industry. Instead, he took time to reflect on what truly mattered to him in his working life. The answer? Cats!

Alex said:

"I was made redundant from a long-term management role in IT and really didn't want to return to that environment. I then spent a long time trying to work out what I wanted to do with my life instead and evaluating what I found important about working life in the hope that inspiration would hit."

Why Cat Sitting?

"As both my wife and I were able to work remotely, we took the opportunity to house-sit for cat owners on holiday. We were doing this as a means to both spend time in other parts of the country and spend time with cats. We had recently lost our beloved cat, Bat after 21 years and wanted to wait a while before getting more cats of our own as a mark of respect to her noteworthy tenure, so this was a really good way to still spend some time with cats in the interim. When we were getting consistent praise about how well we had looked after people's cats and homes, we realised that it was something we could do really well."

A passion turned profession! After house-sitting for cat owners and receiving glowing feedback, Alex realised caring for cats was more than just a hobby—it was his calling

What Was It About The Cat Butler That Appealed to You?

"We had already learned for ourselves that cats are happier at home.  Some of the feedback we'd hear from cat owners about how inconsistent the level of thought and care that went into cat-sitting could be was quite an eye-opener. What The Cat Butler does brilliantly is to remove that anxiety by ensuring a standardised high-quality service so owners can relax and enjoy their time away. While we were grateful for all the praise, we were just doing what we thought was right - your cats and your home are among the most important things in your life - and The Cat Butler sees this the same way."

Tell Us About Your Feline Family

"Jeanette and I have had four cats together. We got brother and sister, Bat and Macgruder, in 2002 after we had moved in together. Macgruder had a good run, passing away at the age of 16. We got another kitten called Chip six months later to keep Bat company, but, unfortunately, died before he was even 3 years old after contracting Lymphoma. Bat lived for another 2 years. After a year’s hiatus from cat-owning, we recently adopted Parker. He was previously taken in as a rescue but his second owner had to make the difficult decision to find him a new home when he proved irreconcilably incompatible with her existing cat. Now he can relax, his fun-loving personality is coming through his shy exterior."

Alex is excited to meet Nottingham’s cat parents and their feline friends, delivering expert care and peace of mind right to their doorstep

What Does the Future Hold?

Alex is looking forward to meeting Nottingham’s cat parents and their feline companions while growing his new business. With a strong background in customer service, he’s excited to combine his people skills with his love of cats to offer the very best experience for both pet owners and their furry friends.
