Background
Gregory was previously an account manager selling coffee machines into offices before he bought his Cat Butler franchise in November 2021. Although Gregory loved his job, it was badly affected by COVID, which gave him the impetus to look around for a new role. In Gregory’s own words: "I’m not really a corporate person, I’m much more individualistic, and I love bringing that to my role as a Cat Butler."
Scaling the business
Just 10 months after buying his franchise and Gregory is so busy, he is turning customers away regularly. He earned back his franchise fee by May of 2022. Gregory said: "It’s just crazy. I am so busy I haven’t had a day off since May. I didn’t think I’d need to look for staff until 2023, but I’m already searching hard for a new member of staff. Obviously, it’s a great ‘problem’ to have as it proves the business is out there, and it’s great that I now have my own ‘vacancies’ section on my website, which really helps spread the word."
Gregory - owner of The Cat Butler Oxford

When asked what makes his Cat Butler service stand out from his competitors, Gregory said
"It is the very individual service we give to each owner and their cat. I send regular videos to the owners, not only showing them that their cat is happy and well, but I also ask them questions about the house, checking it is all ok and as they left it. It’s about always thinking, ‘what more can I do to make this cat and the owners happier?’ every visit. I’m getting about two to three enquiries a week for new clients. I already gave plenty of clients; we find that once they have experienced our services, they don’t let us go. They are already booking up for half terms and Christmas, so I’m bracing myself for another busy period soon."
Asked if he was happy that he had made the change in employment, Gregory said
"Absolutely. I loved my sales job, but it’s always nice being self-employed, doing things the way you want to, and setting your own standards. Now, if I could just recruit a new member of staff, I’d be delighted!"
